This book is a tool so you don't become a tool used up by the chase for currency and money

Most people are completely asleep to how currency and money actually work, and so they end up being enslaved by it - even many of the wealthies people I know have no clue as to WHO ACTUALLY OWNS the fiat currency you use day to day that has some grip on most of our lives unless you choose to be a homeless person or a Tibetan monk. This is the best book there is to explain the redonkulous system that is now in place and how it came to be. Once your eyes are opened, life will never be the same, and you will use currency and money as the tools they are and not be a tool used by them chasing endlessly after them.

About the Author
The George O. May Professor and the Morgan Stanley Research Scholar in the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University. He also serves as co-director of Columbia's Center for Excellence in Accounting and Security Analysis. Prior to his appointment at Columbia in 1999, Stephen Penman was the L.H. Penny Professor in the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1990-95 he served a Chairman of the Professional Accounting Program and Chairman of the Accounting Faculty at Berkeley. He also initiated and chaired Berkeley's Annual Conference on Financial Reporting. He has served as a Visiting Professor at Columbia University and the London Business School of Economic. Professor Penman received a first-class honors degree in Commerce from the University of Queensland, Australia, and M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago.

The book itself is great. I bought it with the idea that I would read it and teach myself the material since completing an MBA two years ago. I was denied access to solutions for the exercises and other resources reserved for instructors and students in degree programs. All information provided to instructors was denied to me by the publisher. For the money spent on this volume, all of the educational resources should be made available either through instructors in formalized degree programs or by some other means to people like myself not in degree programs. Otherwise, this text should not be made available to the general public on Amazon. That stated, the book itself is superb...if you want to read it like a novel.

This is such an excellent text. McGraw Hill has to provide access to the solutions so that individual investors who are trying to teach themselves can learn the material. This is ludicrous. It stinks.

A fine book

I have read most editions over the last ten years and continue to be very impressed with this book. I like, in particular, the clarity and thoroughness of Professor Penman's writing. He gets to the bottom of complex accounting issues, never cuts corners, and addresses how to ensure a conceptually 'clean' interaction with the valuation. Professor Penman is a first rate accountant who explains well and who is concerned with the relevance of financial statements to their users. His discussion of pensions is a case in point. Where many accounting texts are detail-oriented, he is principles-driven. At the intersection of accounting and valuation, I know of nothing better.

Lee Gunderson is Professor of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia where he teaches courses in second language reading, language acquisition, literacy acquisition, and teacher education. He received the David Russell Award for Research, the Killam Teaching Prize at the University of British Columbia and has been awarded the Kingston Prize for contributions to the National Reading Conference.

Works great!

Excellent program to teach kids their multiplication facts. Cute stories help put a visual into their minds and before long the basic facts are memorized. I work with special needs students and have used this program numerous times with great success. I recently changed schools and the school did not know of this program so I purchased the system and several other educators were very impressed at the success of their struggling students. I highly recommend.

Cute and Funny!

Kit Mallory is a total klutz! The director of R & D at International Toy Company, her job is on the line when there's another lab mishap. While waiting in Steven Sinclair's office to be chewed out, his mother lights the trash on fire with her cigarette. Looking beyond her accident-prone ways, Steven is charmed by her kooky family and Kit's sweet personality. Their mutual attraction blooms, but when they have conflicting ideas of women having careers after getting married, their relationship is on the rocks. Can Kit make him understand how important her job is, and more importantly, how much she loves him?

This was a pleasant surprise. The beginning of the book was well scripted and very funny. There were a lot of visual gags during the accident scenes and I was laughing out loud after the fire sprinklers kicked on, soaking everyone. The facial expressions were so over exaggerated, I couldn't help but find them amusing.

I didn't entirely buy into the conflict between the leads. Come on, you caveman, it's the 21st century! Women can have a successful marriage, raise a family, and still find fulfillment in a career! How else can one afford gas in this day and age? Seriously, if someone wants to work, part of loving them is accepting that they are an individual outside of the relationship...

As previously mentioned, the art was light-hearted and very humorous. The style really fit well with the story. I hope more of the line features stories that put an emphasis on humor; I'm really tempted to track down the original book, to discover if it's as amusing.

I absolutely loved this book! Published in 1990, this is Ms. Leclaire's debut and what a truly delightful lovestory. Kit loves her job, it answers the need in her to achieve and be creative and it's loads of fun to boot. Stephen is Kit's boss, and he quickly realizes that though Kit is an asset to the company she's also a walking disaster -- her lab is always exploding it seems. And it's not just her experiments that are explosive! Just having Stephen in her proximity has Kit all worked up, and when they kiss, oh my, but sparks fly! I found myself laughing out loud at Kit's antics and grinning as I turned each page. I know I'll be reaching for this book over and over again.

Fantastic!

I always made it a point in my life never to trust a guy with two first names, but Jim Earl has blown that notion into the netherworld. Mourning Remembrance is chock full of hilarious turns of phrase, socio-cultural insights and scathing satire. It's worth the price if only for the obit for "Frank Perdue, Chicken Choker."

Wickedly Funny Fake Obituaries!

You need this book. It radiates humor. It is the Huckleberry Finn of fake obituary books. It's loaded with facts that will stay with you, like the fact that Glen Bell, founder of Taco Bell "opened his first Taco Bell in 1962 using nothing more than some secondhand e coli and absolutely no concept of what real Mexican food tastes like." The jokes are tightly constructed and no two are alike (with some exceptions that are meticulously footnoted). Buy it. Read it. Carry it around with you. Turn to it during moments of uncertainty.

If you like mocking the dead (and who doesn't), then this is the book for you! Perfect for almost any occasion, "Mourning Remembrance" takes you back to some of the finest moments from Jim Earl's days on "Morning Sedition", and also keeps it current with some hilarious new Obits for such luminaries as Osama Bin Laden and the Segway scooter guy. A must-read for the sick, evil jerk in your life (or in your mirror). Makes an excellent stocking stuffer!
