More than I needed to know

I need to conduct a community needs assessment and this book told me every possible way to do this. Unfortunately, it does not consider directly the scenario of having to conduct one of these by a public agency with limited resources, but it gave me sufficient information to figure out the steps I could omit.

It gets a 3 because it is full of information but no more because it is a dense and dreary text. Reading the postscript a few times helps put it in perspective but that is no substitute for good editing. The "practical guide" subtitle is not appropriate.

A perfect book with audio examples for accent reduction

I owned the first edition and have been listening to the CDs and reading the book for many years. In the second edition the author generously added about 1/5 more very helpful audio files to the book. The four CDs are replaced by hundred of MP3 files with sequential label to match the book's text.

and provide a good foundation for tackling the homework

I'm a third year undergraduate Biomedical Engineering student, and I used this book in a Fluid Flow & Heat Transfer class. Without a doubt it was crucial to my performance in that class. The methodology of each chapter is straightforward, the work is clearly outlined, and concepts are explained with relative simplicity. The most important part of understanding the concepts is understanding the math, which this book excels at. Equations are numbered, and given clear context and descriptions. Example problems tie-in with the homework problems, and provide a good foundation for tackling the homework. I also recommend using the solutions manual, which I believe can be found online. At the time of this review, I am not aware of an undergraduate version of the solutions, although the problems in the graduate version are largely the same. Keep in mind that the solutions may be a little advanced for undergraduates, so don't rely on it too much if you can help it.

In total, this is the best textbook I've ever used in college, no question. All professors should be using this for their classes.

About the Author
John Bercow is a keen tennis player, having first picked up a racket in 1971 at the age of eight. He instantly developed a deep passion for the sport, which has endured until this day. He played as a junior in north London until his late teens, and qualifi ed as a coach in the 1980s. Local Member of Parliament for the Buckingham constituency since 1997 and Speaker of the House of Commons since 2009, he still finds time to play recreationally when his schedule allows. He enjoys watching the major tournaments throughout the year on the television and, very occasionally, in person. He lives in London with his wife, Sally, and their three young children.

A Heartwarming BWWM Romance

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

Settle down with a latte and get ready to have your hearts melted by Alicia and Killian! Alicia and Killian are two people from different worlds who meet in Commerce, a small town in Texas, where they both end up in an effort to escape the shackles of their old life. Commerce for Killian represents a new beginning in an environment where he is anonymous, while for Alicia it represents a chance to make something of herself. A friendship develops between the two which revolves around the diner where Alicia works as a waitress and Killian is a regular customer. When Alicia's brother is in trouble, she requests help from Killian.....This then fast tracks the romance whose seeds had been lying dormant due to the inability by the two to see past their differences.

What I liked about the story is the fact that Alicia and Killian got to know each other over several months, as friends first, with their attraction to each growing over time. This made the romance between them believable, as opposed to an insta-love type of romance. The highlight of the book for me was the following statement: 'He had come to know her mind long before he ever slid his hands over her body, and even if she had been ugly, paralyzed, any other number of factors that would usually be a deal breaker, he'd still love love her, would still love that personality inside her. He'd still love that determination, that iron will hiding beneath her nervous exterior.' Now that's true love!!

What didn't work for me in the story, is the constant references to the age gap between Alicia and Killian. He's 42 years and she's in her 30s.That hardly makes him a cradle snatcher! If she'd been 18 years old to his 42 then the references would have been justified....

I give this book a well deserved 4 stars as I consider it to be a well written BWWM romance with the right balance of action and some really hot romantic scenes!! The story is well-paced, has a lot of depth and definitely melted my heart. I look forward to reading more books by Samantha Westlake.

Kane's Ransom is a great read

Alicia and Killian are two opposites that end up coming together in a blaze of attraction. They meet in Commerce, a town in Texas, where they both came to which is where they ended up after they ran to after they escaped their pasts. Commerce represents something different for each of the MC.-for Killian, its a new beginning while for Alicia, it’s a chance to make something of herself, something better.
This isn’t a immediate wham, bam kind of romance, its one where they meet, then start off as friends and then the romance progresses. Killian is such an alpha and dominant while Alicia is so fiery and sweet. Alicia needed help so she goes to Killian…and the story goes from one story and leaps into another. You will not be bored. I wish there was more to this story because I do not think Alicia and Killian’s story was finished. I wish I knew if they got their HEA or if it was HFN..it was left up in the air when the book ended. And there was something about Killian’s “friend” Jiggs..maybe there might be more of a story about him. Some unanswered questions lingered, but overall, this is a good story.
My rating: 4.4 stars ****

Love! This needs to have a sequel!

I loved this book! I received this book in exchange for my honest review. I couldn't put it down which is why I was a little sad it ended. Kane was so hot and mysterious! And Alicia is so cute and fiery! They make the perfect couple. Their time in the hotel was sooo hot! I wish there could be a sequel to this book because I feel like there's more to their story and something doesn't sit right with me about Killian's old pal Jiggs. But all in all great book I just wish it was a little bit longer.
